I have been painting all my life and have passed through various stages of technique, style, etc.
My favourite medium is watercolour. I also work in gouache, acrylic, chroma colour and all forms of pastel and mixed media.
Pictures take some time to mature in my mind but the act of painting is spontaneous and calligraphic. Every line is important and considered so each painting is unique.
The palette I use is of pure vibrant colour. Several colours are on the brush at the same time and then swept onto the paper to allow them to blend and flow. The properties of the paint (staining, granulation, repelling etc) then produce an effect for me to develop.
The subject matter for my paintings is varied and covers domestic scenes of the garden and farm where I live, landscapes, seascapes, still life, animals, etc. It will be something that excites me .Many of my paintings for the last number of years have been based on the Welsh hills that I used to ride on horseback. I also have 'mental photographs' to isolate the important part of an image or even the sensation and so make my pictures more intuitive.
