Born Mumbles, Nr Swansea
I have been a member of the Watercolour Society of Wales since 1973, and Chair from 1991 to 2001. I was first introduced to watercolour in my final term at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, 1955-58, obtaining a Bath Academy of Art travelling Scholarship 1958.Until then my main work had been in drawing, and large scale oils. I liked the immediacy of watercolours, whether paintings 'al fresco', figures, or my love of painting plants and flowers in my studio.
I now work more in other media with watercolour, in oil painting and drawing. My work is based on a visual stimulus of organic forms and my response to the immediate personal world around me. However, the 'in situ' landscape painting in watercolour will always feature in my work. One of the great pleasures of this medium for me, is to sit out in the open, looking, selecting, brush to paper. Pure joy!.
